Italian supermarket chain Conad and non-profit organisation Legambiente have signed a MoU to support sustainable agriculture through the implementation of high environmental-value production chains
For several years, Conad has been engaged on issues of sustainability in its production cycle, to the point of making the promotion of Italian food heritage a fundamental part of its corporate mission.
The retailer has its own private label brand dedicated to regional excellences ('Sapori&Dintorni'),while its milk and dairy products, tomato products and other canned vegetables are 100 per cent of Italian origin, as is 95 per cent of its fruit and vegetables.
Legambiente, for its part, will provide suggestions regarding the expansion of the range of products of high environmental value and ethics, and will also support the launch of the new private label brand 'Conad Verso Natura', scheduled after the summer.
The collaboration on Conad’s private label brands will also focus on farming systems, social responsibility, climate change, the use of green energy and environmentally friendly materials, optimisation of the use of packaging, regulatory compliance, animal welfare, the prohibition of use of hormones, and the certification of the production process.
In addition, the partners will support high-value supply chains, such as the “Conad Percorso Qualità” and “Sapori&Dintorni” products.
