Italian private-label manufacturer Consilia recorded sales growth of 11.4% in 2018.
The findings emerged from analysis by the Business Intelligence unit of the Consorzio SUN - Supermercati Uniti Nazionali, based on final IRI data for 2018.
While overall sales of private-label products in Italy saw an average increase of 2.8% in the past year, Consilia registered double-digit growth in the same period.
In terms of categories, sales of Consilia-branded fresh products grew by 6.8% (1.7% overall in the Italian market); in beverages, the increase was 17.2% (0.4%); in fruit and vegetables, it was 13.6% (6.4%); in pet care, it stood at 20.6% (-0.9%); and in personal care, it stood at 10.4% (0.6%).
Due to the Christmas festivities, in the month of December alone, sales of Consilia private-label products rose by 7.6%, compared to national average of 0.7%, the study found.
Growth Margins
According to Stefano Rango, director of the Consorzio SUN - Supermercati Uniti Nazionali, the constant increase in the range of Consilia-branded products, coupled with a growth in quality standards, ensures considerable growth margins.
The Consorzio SUN - Supermercati Uniti Nazionali incorporates local chains Italmark, Gruppo Gabrielli, Alfi (Gulliver), Cadoro and Gros Gruppo Romano Supermercati.
