Spanish cooperative retailer Covirán has expanded its own-brand chicken range with a new assortment of white chicken featuring animal welfare certification.
Covirán is collaborating with Inasur, a family business from Córdoba, as its main supplier, the company noted.
Inasur has obtained the Welfair® certification - the highest European recognition in animal welfare – ensuring that both its farms and slaughterhouses comply with the standards established by the European Community.
Inasur's facilities also have quality certifications, such as the IFS for agro-food production, Welfare Quality managed by IRTA, and ISO 14001 for environmental management.
In August, Inasur and Covirán entered into an agreement to roll out a selection of white chicken products under the Covirán brand.
Chicken Range
The Covirán chicken range, category A, includes quality products with a carcass weight of over 2 kilograms.
The retailer will offer a range of 12 references, both for assisted sales and self-service.
The agreement reinforces the commitment of both companies to quality and consumer satisfaction, expanding the options of fresh products available on the market, Covirán noted.
The new range will be available in Andalusia and Extremadura as the retailer seeks to reduce its environmental impact to prioritise the proximity of the supplier to the stores.
Covirán will also evaluate the possibility of collaborating in the future with other companies with the same values as Inasur, to extend this model to other regions of Spain.
The Spanish supermarket cooperative reported a 3.2% increase in gross sales, to €1.8 billion, in its 2023 financial year. Profit before taxes amounted to €3.24 million, and net profit reached €2.03 million – up around €1 million on the previous year.
