Marking the 20th anniversary of E.Leclerc's private label line Marque Repère, the supermarket chain’s president said that he envisions the line becoming a leader in terms of environmental awareness, nutrition and health, as well as offering the quality of national brands for 25% less.
Michel-Edouard Leclerc outlined plans to add more organic and gluten-free SKUs to the brand and to reduce the pesticide use involved in Marque Repère supply chains by half over the next three years, to lessen its carbon footprint.
This is a target the retailer wishes to reach by 2020. Marque Repère, which grew by 2.3% during 2016, sold in excess of 3.1 billion SKUs over the 12 months, according to LSA-Conso.fr.
The maker of many of its private label SKUs, Scamark, is engaged in cutting down on packaging and reinforcing ‘ethical’ practices with suppliers.
E.Leclerc’s turnover for 2016 grew by 2.7% during 2016.
