UPDATE: European Private Label Awards 2023 – Winners Announced
Retailers from Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Turkey, Ireland and the UK have been named as finalists in the 2023 European Private Label Awards, organised by ESM: European Supermarket Magazine.
A total of 68 product innovations were named among this year's finalists, across 17 categories, in what is the biggest European Private Label Awards to date. The winners in this year's competition are due to be revealed in late January 2023.
Retailers named among the finalists include some of the giants of European retail, including Lidl, Aldi, REWE Group, Conad, SPAR, Coop Italia, Pingo Doce, Salling Group, Intermarché, Axfood, Kesko and more, along with a number of first-time entrants this year, such as online-only retailer Gorillas.
"The cost-of-living crisis has led to a surge in sales of private-label products, as consumers seek out high quality, keenly priced products," said Stephen Wynne-Jones, editor, ESM: European Supermarket Magazine. "As this year's group of finalists illustrates, store brands are more than capable of competing with mainstream products, in many cases outperforming them."
The European Private Label Awards were launched by ESM: European Supermarket Magazine in 2017, to determine the most impactful and innovative private-label brands on sale in Europe’s supermarkets. Open to both retailers and suppliers, the Awards celebrate the best of store brand innovation on a pan-European level.
The judging process for the Awards took place in Dublin, Ireland, with a panel of retail and culinary experts assessing each of the products in terms of three key criteria – Taste, Innovation and Presentation. More information on the judging process can be found here.
