German discounter Netto Marken-Discount has announced that it plans to expand its range of GM-free products sold in stores, with the introduction of certified pork products to its private label line ‘Gut Ponholz’.
In addition to GM-free minced meat, chicken cutlets and neck steaks, the retailer now also offers GM-free goulash and pork cutlets. Edeka-owned Netto Marken-Discount announced plans to further expand the range in September 2017 and include GM-free ham sausage, salami, and cooked sausage.
GM-Free Production
In accordance with self-imposed quality standards, Netto doesn’t sell genetically modified food in any of its more than 4,170 stores across Germany. In addition, the retailer has pledged to expand its range of products from animals only fed with GM-free fodder.
All of Netto’s completely GM-free products, including all products of the private label ‘BioBio’, are marked with the ‘Ohne Gentechnik’ label by the ‘Verband Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik’ (VLOG), the association for GM-free food in Germany.
Responsibility
“Being one of the leading companies in the food sector, we consider it our responsibility to offer our customers a range of GM-free products,” said Stefanie Adler, head of corporate communications at Netto.
“This is why the conversion of Netto’s private label products is firmly established in our corporate objectives. Every additional VLOG-certified product is a success and offers customers even more freedom of choice and transparency when buying food”.
