Italian private label manufacturer Consilia recorded a 22.5 per cent growth in sales during the period January to May 2015, compared to the same period the previous year.
The figures are from the SUN (Supermercati Uniti Nazionali), a purchasing group active in northern and central Italy, based on total hypermarket and supermarket sales.
In general, private label sales in Italy during May grew by 2.9 per cent, but only 0.1 per cent in the first five months of this year. The best performers were cold products and fruit and vegetables, which grew 9.5 per cent and 8.1 per cent in May, respectively.
Among Consilia private label products, the biggest growth came from cold products (54.5 per cent), grocery food (34.6 per cent), home care (23.3 per cent), fresh products (15.3 per cent), personal care (10.3 per cent); pet care (10.7 per cent) and drinks (4.6 per cent). Bucking the trend was the vegetable sector, which recorded a decrease of 6 per cent.
Consilia produces private label products for members of the SUN consortium (Gros, Cadoro, Gabrielli Group and Italbrix), costing on average 25 per cent less than similar A-Brand products.
