Italian private label brand Consilia has seen a record growth of 22% in the period January to November 2016, the company has announced.
The data includes private label sales of the brand owned by the Supermercati Uniti Nazionali (SUN) consortium in hypermarkets and supermarkets of grocery retailers Italmark, Gruppo Gabrielli, Alfi, Gros and Cadoro, which together have a 3% market share.
Consilia brand products saw the highest increase in sales among cold products (+40.1%), followed by personal care (+26.8%), grocery food (+24.6%), home care (+20.6%), fruit and vegetables (+19.9%), drinks (+9.3%) and pet care (+8.3%).
According to Nielsen data for November 2016, private label sales accounted for 18.6% of the market, up 0.3% over the same month in 2015.
Overall, hypermarket and supermarket sales in Italy grew by 1.7% on October, representing the highest growth during 2016.
Large hypermarkets (larger than 4500 square metres) registered a small decline in sales (-0.2%), while hypermarkets and supermarkets with a size of 400-4499 square metres experienced a positive performance (+2.3%).
Among the 19 major grocery retailers, nine ended the month in the black.
