Dutch retailer Jumbo has announced it plans to increase the range of sustainable milk products it offers under its private label brand, with products bearing the Beter Leven keurmerk (BLK), as well as the PlanetProof quality mark.
The group said that it will use these standards as a benchmark towards the production of a more varied, affordable range of dairy products.
Jumbo has committed to sell exclusively sustainable dairy products by 2022, and was the first supermarket in the Netherlands to make this commitment.
Next Step
"The introduction of these certified dairy products is an important next step in realising our ambition," said Olaf de Boer, executive director with responsibility for buying and merchandising at Jumbo.
"We think it is important that our products are manufactured with respect for people, animals and the environment."
Both the BLK and PlanetProof marks indicate adherence to high standards relating to animal welfare, biodiversity, environment and climate.
"An important principle is that more sustainable products that are on the shelves at Jumbo should be accessible to as many people as possible and that their production remains feasible for farmers," said de Boer.
