Kroger Drops Private-Label Lawsuit Against Lidl

Kroger's lawsuit against Lidl, over the positioning of its private-label range, has been dropped, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.

US retailer Kroger took action against the discounter in July, claiming that Lidl's Preferred Selection range too closely resembled Kroger's Private Selection line.

After Kroger's injunction to prevent Lidl from selling the products in its US stores was denied, it was reported that the two companies would go to trial in January 2018.

However, the two companies have now jointly filed a dismissal in the case.

“The case has been dismissed,” Will Harwood, a Lidl US spokesman, told the Richmond Times Dispatch.

“Lidl’s launch in the United States has been a great success so far. We look forward to more store openings, and are pleased to continue to offer our customers Lidl’s Preferred Selection," Harwood said.

Kroger operates around 3,000 stores across the United States, while Lidl first opened its doors in the US in June, operating 17 stores.
