Lidl Portugal Expands Canned Tuna Private Label Offer

Lidl Portugal has signed a new agreement with Azores-based Fábrica de Conservas Sta. Catarina for the production of a new canned tuna private label product line.

'Bela Aurora' is a new value private label tuna brand that will be marketed exclusively in Lidl stores in Portugal. The expectation of the two partners is that 1.5 million cans will be sold within a year.

The Portuguese company specialises in artisanal tuna fishing off the island of São Jorge. It has been cooperating with Lidl for the past six years, supplying around 20 per cent of its private label canned tuna.

Lidl Portugal was the company’s main customer in 2015, accounting for 32 per cent of total turnover.

Recently, Fábrica de Conservas Sta. Catarina was issued the “Dolphin Safe” and “Friend of the Sea” certificates and seals by Lidl Portugal, as guarantees of quality, responsibility and sustainability.
