Lidl Spain recently announced that it will buy all its private-label milk from farmers in the country, staying out of the international milk market.
As reported by EuropaPress.es, the measure will be implemented immediately, and the company has guaranteed that all the liquid milk sold in Spain under the brand Milbona will be 100% Spanish.
This will represent an increase of 35% in the volume of purchases of liquid milk that Lidl acquires in the national market, which is now expected to grow from 100 to 135 million litres per year. This figures accounts for 4.5% of the Spanish market.
Spokespeople at Lidl Spain have pointed out that this decision will have a "positive impact" in the Spanish dairy industry, including job creation and investment.
