Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona has launched a high-cocoa chocolate SKU in Portugal as part of its Hacendado private label range.
The Negro 99% tablet is produced locally by Imperial, and will go on sale in 1,636 Mercadona stores in Portugal and Spain.
In line with the retailer’s transparency policy, all the information about the product, the supplier and its origin is present on the labels.
Aimed at lovers of intensely-flavoured dark chocolate, the 100 gram tablet is composed of at least 99% cocoa, as it has only three ingredients: cocoa paste, cocoa powder and cocoa butter. Furthermore, it has no added sugar or sweeteners and is a gluten-free product.
Nestlé Range
Elsewhere, Nestlé Portugal is also unveiling new SKUs in the chocolate market, with the extension of its Nestlé Extrafino range.
New additions to the range include three new filled milk chocolate bars, Tosta Rica, Dinosaurus and Maxibon).
The Nestlé Extrafino tablets are produced with cocoa from the company’s Cocoa Plan program, which aims to improve the lives of farmers and their families by increasing product quality, promoting better agriculture, which enhances the production of better raw materials, which in turn also improves the income level of farms.
