Austrian retailer Merkur has increased the range of locally-produced food in its offering.
For example, since the beginning of 2019, Merkur has sold around 500,000 products that are produced in the Salzburg area, the retailer explained.
Merkur's range includes 280 product ranges that are local to the Salzburg area, particularly sausages, cheese and eggs, produced by 30 local manufacturers.
Some of its flagship products include sheep's milk yogurt and cheese, produced near the Wolfgangsee, organic eggs sourced from a chicken farm in Wagrain and organic honey from an apiary in Michaelbeuern.
'Merkur extends its range of local food products constantly and enables local manufacturers to present their culinary specialities in 138 stores, from Neusiedler See to Bodensee', the retailer explained.
Customers at Merkur, which is part of the Rewe Group, can recognise local products from the Salzburg area with the help of a new label, 'SalzburgerLand Herkunftszertifikat'.
