A £10 Marks and Spencer Chardonnay has been named the world’s best of its grape variety for under £15, following the votes of 240 experts at the Decanter World Wine Awards, one of the most influential wine competitions globally, dailymail.co.uk reports.
The M&S 2014 Mâcon-Villages was among only 35 wines of 16,000 to receive the accolade of an International Trophy at this year’s awards. The UK grocer described the award-winning wine as “a fresh and fruity white with a really appealing, lively scent of apples and lemons and a hint of ripe, rounded peach on the finish.”
Among the wines that were given Gold Medals were Co-op’s Truly Irresistible Malbec 2013, Tesco Finest* Malbec 2014, Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Pinot Noir 2013, and Morrison’s Signature Pinotage 2014, themirror.co.uk says.
