Private label has seen a 1.8% growth in value in Italy during the first half of 2016, thanks to increased sales of organic and premium products.
According to IRI data, organic product sales were up 18.2%, while sales of premium products grew by 15.2%. The two categories now account for 14% of the total private label market.
In the “first price” segment, private label has seen a 19.8% drop during the first six months of the year.
Overall, private label has a 17.9% market share (+0.2%) and if current market trends are maintained, it could end the year with 19%.
Commenting the results, Guido Cristini from the Private Label Observatory told daily “Il Sole 24 Ore” that “traditional and functional products are expected to become the pillars of the private label offer in the coming years”.
