UK retailer Poundland has confirmed that its 'Twin Peaks' chocolate bar will go on sale across the country from Monday 4 December.
The discount retailer initially launched its private label bar in June of this year, however, sales were delayed following a legal dispute with confectionery company Mondelēz.
The snack giant claimed that Twin Peaks was a copy of its own Toblerone brand, but the two companies reached a deal last month, which would allow Poundland to sell the 500,000 bars that were already in production, and launch a redesigned version of the chocolate bar.
"Although it’s been a longer climb than we expected, we’re pleased customers will finally get to taste our Twin Peaks," said Poundland trading controller Chris Burns.
The new bar will be available at the retailer's 850 UK stores at a price of £1.
Product Development
Poundland says that Twin Peaks was developed in response to Toblerone's recent product changes, which modified the shape of the classic bar and reduced its weight by 20g.
“In the last 12 months we believe our customers alone have missed out on 250 tonnes of chocolate after the size of their favourite item was chopped,” said Burns.
“That’s why we began development on Twin Peaks in the first place.”
However, the retailer adds that its own brand rival has a 'distinctive British flavour' compared to the Swiss chocolate nougat, and is inspired by Shropshire’s Wrekin and Ercall hills.
Following the agreement with Mondelēz, Twin Peaks will be launched with brand new packaging, and a revised shape.
