For the first time since 2013 private label brands in Portugal have seen a higher growth rate than manufacturers' brands, according to the latest Nielsen Scantrends barometer.
In October, private label brands grew by 4.7%, compared to a 3.7% growth for manufacturers' brands.
In the food category (+3.2% year-on-year), private label grew by 4.4% compared to 2.4% for the latter.
Beverages were once again the fastest growing category (+8.5%), but were the only one in which manufacturers' brands (+9.4%) achieved higher growth than private label (+4.5%).
Private label brands have a market share of 33.3% in Portugal.
Overall, sales of consumer goods in Portugal during October grew by 4% year-on-year. During the first ten months of 2016, sales of consumer goods totalled €7.07 billion, up by 2.2% on the same period in 2015.
