UK retailer Sainsbury’s has added 21 new plant-based products to its product line, increasing the range of its vegetarian and vegan products by 10%.
The vegan and vegetarian options were launched across the UK on 27 June.
New Additions
Included in the launch is the Naturli' range of fresh meat-free mince and burgers, which use beetroot in order to retain a redness that is similar to cooked meat.
Sainsbury’s has also expanded the Love Veg! line to include seven new ready-to-eat meals.
These meals include Mac ’n Jack — macaroni and cheese with jackfruit — along with a Veggie Katsu Curry with sweet potato and sticky rice and Chilli Non-Carne & Rice. The Mac 'n Jack is priced at €2.50, the Veggie Katsu is priced at €3.00, and the Chilli Non-Carne & Rice is priced at €2.00.
Other products included in the launch are the Vivera Pulled Veggie (€2.50), Vivera Fish Burger (€2.50), and Tofurky Italian sausage (€3.00).

Plant-Based Meat Alternatives Gaining Popularity
“There are already over 22 million flexitarians in the UK,” said Rachael Matthews, the meat-free product development manager at Sainsbury’s. "We’re seeing more and more of our customers making plant-based foods a key part of their diet."
The demand for more alternative meats is rising, and, "breadth of choice is extremely important to us and our customers and we want to provide the same variety for meat lovers and plant lovers alike,” Matthews stated.
Earlier this week, Kantar Worldpanel announced that Sainsbury's market share dropped slightly in the period to 17 June.
