Spar Austria has announced the launch of activated charcoal-coated toothbrushes under its private label brand ‘Beauty Kiss’.
Activated charcoal, made most commonly from carbonised wood, is a natural cleansing agent due to its rough surface and fine-pored structure. It is completely odourless and tasteless.
The substance has seen a variety of different applications over time, from water filtration to medical body detoxification and, more recently, oral hygiene.
Unusual Look
Activated charcoal has become increasingly popular as a powder, in toothpastes or as a coating for toothbrushes.
'For millennia, man has known the cleaning properties of activated charcoal and uses it in a variety of different ways, most prominently the use in water treatment plants,' said Spar. 'In this country, the highly porous black carbon, which is usually obtained from wood, peat or nut shells, is now also becoming increasingly popular in dental hygiene.'
The new ‘Spar Beauty Kiss’ toothbrushes come in pink, black, green and white, with an ergonomic handle and are available at all Austrian Spar, Eurospar and Interspar stores for €1.89.
