Spar Austria has launched a new animal-welfare brand, Tann-Heimathöfe, in partnership with regional pig farmers in Niederösterreich and producer association Gut Streitdorf.
The Tann-Heimathöfe brand's qualifying criteria ensures that animals are to be provided with at least 60% more space, cleaner indoor and outdoor spaces, and locally produced, premium-quality feed.
Helmut Gattringer, head of Tann (Meats) St. Pölten, commented, "Tann-Heimathöfe is not just a new brand, but a strategy, combining animal welfare, quality produce and support for innovative pork producers in our country. I am convinced that this concept will be a benchmark for the Austrian meat market."
Spar CEO Hans K. Reisch added, "Spar Austria aims to support the local economy. Projects that focus on regional, quality produce are incredibly valuable to all parties involved, helping producers, retailers and consumers."
