Swiss retailer Migros has introduced three new edible insect ranges in order to support innovative and sustainable food concepts that ensure nutrition in the future.
The new insect ranges, under the Mi Bugs banner, are whole, dried and unseasoned products, which are presented in a bag that can serve up to two people.
The products are available throughout Switzerland via the chain’s website.
A Hearty Mealworm
The three new ranges being introduced are Mi Bugs Mealworms 30g (CHF 3.90), Mi Bugs Grilling (CHF 4.90), and Mi Bugs Locusts (CHF 6.90).
The products are good for one year without refrigeration and can be consumed directly from the bag.
Insects are an integral part of people’s diet in many parts of the world, with a high protein content, valuable unsaturated fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins.
In addition, insects have a positive envionmental effect, since their breeding needs little food, water, space, and the animals emit hardly any greenhouse gases.
Cookery School
Migros' a culinary school, Migros Club School, also now offers a course in “cooking with insects”.
In addition to recipes and nutritional information, the culinary school will provide tips on breeding, handling and ecological aspects of insects.
