Tesco Commits To Major Sugar-Reduction Programme

The UK's biggest grocer, Tesco, has committed to cutting the amount of sugar that it has in its own-brand soft drinks by 5 per cent by the end of the year.

The move, which has won the approval of health experts, comes in response to concerns that in the UK, an addiction to sugar is fuelling obesity and associated medical conditions.

Tesco is the UK's biggest seller of soft drinks, responsible for a reported 30 per cent of sales.

"Our commitment is to provide our customers with healthy choices. We are not complacent, and we want to build on previous successes in this area," a Tesco spokesman said, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Tesco removed sweets and chocolates from checkouts in supermarkets at the start of the year.
