The Co-operative has begun supplying the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes (NAAFI), enabling British servicemen and women to buy the retailer’s own-brand frozen food products at military bases around the world.
As well as military bases in Germany, Co-operative private label frozen food products will be on sale in NAAFI stores in Gibraltar and in far-flung outposts, such as Brunei and the Falkland Islands.
The frozen foods deal will include top sellers at the supermarket, including breaded cod fillets, southern fried chicken portions, chicken and mushroom pies, lamb shanks in mint gravy, ice cream and a selection pack of Indian foods.
Steve Murrells, Chief Executive, Retail, at The Co-operative Group, said: “This is the first time The Co-operative Food has worked with NAAFI, but we are delighted to be working with them so British troops, and their families, can continue to enjoy our much-loved products – no matter where they are in the world. “Many of them come from areas of the UK, which already have a local Co-operative food store, so seeing our products in the NAAFI store will bring a little bit of Britain to wherever they are stationed – even in the middle of the Atlantic."
