Waitrose & Partners is introducing an organic wine in a bag-in-box format to its Waitrose Duchy Organic range.
This is the first bag-in-box wine to be offered by the UK retailer.
Duchy Organic
Originally founded as Duchy Originals by HRH The Prince of Wales to champion organic farming, the range was brought to Waitrose just over 10 years ago following a licensing agreement that gave the retailer the exclusive rights to the range.
The Duchy Originals range has now grown to include more than 300 food and drink SKUs and is exported to over 30 countries worldwide.
The recently introduced Duchy Organic wine is an Italian Pinot Grigio, made from grapes grown in the southern Italian region of Puglia.
The region is suited for growing grapes organically due to the distinctive winds it receives, which ventilate the vineyards, keeping everything dry and helping to avoid the spread of diseases in the vineyard.
Marien Rodriguez, wine buyer, Waitrose, said "We’re excited to launch our Waitrose Duchy Organic wine. Our bag-in-box format, which is packaged in the UK, delivers the wine in a sustainable way, minimising carbon emissions and once opened will keep fresher for longer than a bottle. It’s the perfect wine to serve with seafood dishes this summer."
Flavour
The Waitrose Duchy Organic Pinot Grigio 2020 is described as having flavours such as fresh ripe peach, melon, pear, and honeysuckle notes.
The Waitrose Duchy Organic Pinot Grigio 2020 bag-in-box is 2.25l (equivalent to three bottles) and is priced £19.99, available in Waitrose branches now, with online availability to come.
