A new Prosecco-flavoured lip balm, launched by UK retailer Waitrose for the festive season, has proved so popular with customers that it sold out three weeks before Christmas and had to be reordered, the company said.
Waitrose beauty buyer Mark Steele commented, "We know our shoppers love Prosecco, so we wanted to recreate its flavour in a lip balm, ready for the mistletoe season. It sold out much quicker than expected, so we have had to double our original order to keep up with demand."
The novelty lip-balm combines a blend of moisturising oils, derived from almonds and camelina seeds, with flavourings, designed to approximate the aroma and flavour of the popular Italian sparkling wine. The lip-balm is produced in the UK.
Other Prosecco products launched at Waitrose this Christmas include a Prosecco Panettone (a type of Italian sweet-bread, from the region of Milan) and a Kir Royale Meringue Stack festive dessert, combining meringue and Prosecco cream.
