European retail giants Rewe Group and Leclerc have announced the creation of a purchasing alliance that will foster cooperation between the two retailers in a variety of areas.
Areas on which the new alliance will focus include the development of organic ranges, logistics and purchasing.
“As part of the new alliance, Rewe and Leclerc have agreed to identify synergies and common strategic guidelines between the two businesses, while keeping their independence,” IGD Retail Analysis said about the agreement.
The new partnership will mean that Rewe looks set to leave the CORE buying group by December of this year, and rejoin Coopernic, which includes Leclerc, Coop Schweiz, Système U, Coop Italia, and Delhaize, the latter of which joined this year.
