Dutch supermarket chain Albert Heijn has named Oma's Soep, Solt and Gigi's Gelato as the winners of its Product Pitch 2019 contest.
Oma's Soep, founded by Max and Robert, offers fresh soups made of leftover ingredients.
It is prepared by the elderly in association with young volunteers at various locations in Amsterdam and Groningen.
The initiative addresses two social problems – loneliness among the elderly and food waste.
Sustainable Products
Solt, owned by five Salt Camp fishermen, has been recognised for its sustainable products from the sea, including Dutch shrimp and creamy shrimp soup.
Gigi's Gelato offers 100% vegan ice creams made of fruit and vegetables, containing no milk, cream, or eggs.
Every year, Albert Heijn's Product Pitch initiative gives startups an opportunity to sell their innovative products in the retailer's outlets.
This year's edition, which was announced in January, received around 60 applications, out of which 20 were selected for the product pitch held on 4 April.
