Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has announced that it has joined The Hague city council in a social initiative, aimed at improving local communities.
The parties have signed up for goals which include creating a safer and cleaner community environment around the sites of Albert Heijn stores, promoting physical activity and healthy eating among local residents through educational projects, and providing jobs and job-training opportunities.
The agreement was signed by Albert Heijn regional manager, Sebastiaan de Jong and the mayor of The Hague, Jozias van Aartsen, on 27 February.
Operating 42 supermarkets in The Hague, which employ many local residents, Albert Heijn has a vested interest in community projects.
