Albert Heijn Organises Kids' Cooking Competition

Dutch retailer Albert Heijn is inviting all children in The Netherlands, mad into cooking and aged 10 to 12, to participate in a national Cooking Competition for Kids.

During Dutch Agri Food Week, which runs from 12 to 25 October, the children can present their skills as a chef in a series of regional competitions, followed by national finals.

The finalists, the ten regional winners, will prepare their dishes live at the Food Halls in Amsterdam, on 19 October. The overall winner and the winning recipe will be featured in Albert Heijn's Allerhande Magazine.

Marit van Egmond, product-range manager for Albert Heijn, said: "With the 'Kids Kook Battle', we want to show that cooking is cool and healthy food can be delicious. During Dutch Agri Food Week, we'll make cooking healthy food fun for the children in The Netherlands."

According to the Albert Hein website, around 95% of Dutch children - aged 7 to 19 - are not eating enough fruit & veg and around 14% are overweight. The company sees the 'battle of the chefs' as a fun way to introduce children to a healthy diet.
