Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has announced its support for the goals of the National Food Summit, organised by members of parliament in The Netherlands. The summit aims to create agreements within the industry for healthier, more sustainable and transparent production of food.
Speaking at the summit, Albert Heijn director Marit van Egmond, who is in charge of all product ranges, said, "At Albert Heijn we fill around five million plates every day and we see that as a great responsibility. We know what motivates our customers: they want delicious, healthy, sustainable and affordable products; we want to ensure that those products are on the shelves, every day."
She added that Albert Heijn aims to make the Dutch diet a little healthier every day, through product-development and innovation.
Recent developments include new fruit and vegetable spreads, ’nearly-ready’ meals with a high proportion of partially-prepared greens, and the introduction of pizzas, ready-meals, yoghurts and soft drinks with reduced salt, sugar and saturated fat content.
