Discounter Aldi has suggested that it may be preparing to open physical stores in China as soon as next year.
Previously, the discounter announced plans to open an online store in the country in the first half of next year, which would largely be serviced by its Australian arm.
However, the discounter has told local Chinese media that it is also eyeing plans to open physical stores, with the first opening potentially coming by the end of 2017.
Last week, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that Australia was set to be used as a springboard for Aldi’s expansion into greater Asia, as well as China.
Its initial online store will be focused on non-chilled groceries and wine, the discounter has confirmed.
