Discount retailer Aldi Süd has announced plans to donate 40,000 bottles of disinfectant to hospitals and institutions for senior citizens in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donation will be made to more than 50 facilities in the south of Germany including Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, and North Rhine-Westphalia.
The initiative is a part of its Mit Herz für Helfer (With a heart for helpers) campaign and is scheduled to commence from the end of April, the retailer said.
Production
The disinfectants will be made with ethanol donated by the De La Tour distillery in France.
The discounter collaborated with a longstanding supplier to produce 20,000 litres of disinfectant packed in 0.5-litre bottles.
Group director for buying at Aldi Süd, Kristina Bell, commented, “With the donation of 40,000 bottles of disinfectants, we are helping in hospitals and senior care facilities. The employees there are currently doing great things, which is why we would like to contribute to their protection.”
