Germany's Aldi Süd has unveiled its new 'Filiale der Zukunft', or 'Store of the Future' concept, which it hopes to roll out to all stores by 2019.
The concept incorporates new areas such as a 'coolbox', featuring snacks and drinks, a seating area behind the checkout area, in-store coffee machines and customer restrooms. a new look 'Drinks Zone' will highlight the store's wine selection, while the centerpiece of each store will be the 'Fresh Zone', incorporating fruit, vegetables, meat and other meal essentials.
"As an innovative company, it is natural for us to move with the times and to modernise our stores," an Aldi Süd spokesperson explained.
The stores will also use LED lighting throughout, through which Aldi Süd intends to save approximately 48 million kWh per year.
