The German discount supermarket chain Aldi is set to increase its already formidable presence in the UK.
This is planned to happen in the form of a new store in Cambridge, which will be its second outlet in the area if it manifests.
Residents of west Cambridge received leaflets informing them of the job-creation potential of a new Aldi store in the vicinity. Enclosed with this was a questionnaire intended to reveal where precisely the majority of the populace would like the new supermarket to trade.
Emily Annable, a spokesperson for the retailer, spoke of the proposed opening, stating "We don't have a specific site planned, but we do have an interest in opening at least one new Aldi store, and we thought we would inform people, and try to gather their interest.
"Cambridge has been on Aldi's radar for quite a long time now; and we're just trying to identify the right site for the store.
"It's too early to say exactly when we will have plans in place, but we want something as soon as possible, so as soon as the planning process will let us do so."
