German retailer Aldi has announced plans to reopen 30 of 66 former Bottom Dollar stores in the US.
Delhaize Group confirmed in January that all 66 Bottom Dollar food-chain stores would close, with the expected loss of nearly 2,000 jobs.
In November, ESM reported that Belgian retailer Delhaize (Bottom Dollar's parent company) said that it would sell the stores to Aldi.
The acquired stores, in Pennsylvania, South Jersey and north-eastern Ohio, will be reopened under the Aldi supermarket brand.
According to American news site Philly.com, the reopening of the former Bottom Dollar stores is part of Aldi's $3-billion US expansion plan, which the retailer announced in 2013.
