As part of its £600-million investment in the UK’s supermarket sector, which was announced in 2014, Aldi has unveiled concrete plans to open 80 new supermarkets in Britain this year, hiring 5,000 new staff in the process.
This will take the number of UK supermarkets it operates to 700. It intends to bring this figure to 1,000 by 2022.
Aldi UK pays its staff at least £8.40 an hour, and £9.45 an hour in the London area, which exceeds the ‘living wage’ requirements.
Ruth Doyle, regional managing director at Aldi, was quoted by the Financial Times as saying, "We’re looking for individuals with a real passion for retail who are seeking a long-term career with a growing and ambitious business."
