German health-food chain Alnatura is building a new office complex in Darmstadt (Germany). Redeveloping the site of Kelley Barracks, Alnatura plans to relocate the company’s headquarters. The new complex will include a Kindergarten and a vegetarian restaurant.
Incorporating the latest eco- friendly technology, the new office building will feature external walls making use of mud to regulate the climate inside the building. Photovoltaic- and geothermal systems will render the building carbon neutral.
In addition to office space, the ‘Alnatura Campus’ will provide a recreational and educational meeting place for the community. Educational and experimental gardens on site will show the cultivation of food, from seed to produce. The project is expected to be completed by spring 2018.
Established in 1984 as a sole-trader initiative, Alnatura is the most popular German health-food chain today. It offers a range of organics and whole foods. It has branches in 49 cities across Germany and employs 2,560 people.
