Argos has opened its first two digital stores in Sainsbury’s supermarkets in the UK.
The new formats are now in operation in Sainsbury's outlets in North Cheam in Surrey and Nantwich in Cheshire.
The smaller, new format Argos digital stores offer the most popular products for immediate collection by customers.
According to Argos, 20,000 products - ranging from tablets to toys - are available for collection within a few hours at the store.
The new stores are equipped with tablets to mirror the online shopping experience with staff on hand to help with all queries.
Around half of total sales at Argos now start online, but 90 per cent of customers visit one of its 755 stores to pick up their goods.
The digital stores are around 1,000 square feet in size.
Other stores will open over the summer and will range in size, going up to 5,000 square feet.
Argos digital stores will also open in Sainsbury's outlets in West Hove, Crayford, Calcot, Bognor Regis, Durham, Rustington, Drumchapel and Keighley.
All of the remaining locations are confirmed to open over the summer months.
Speaking on the new digital store openings, Roger Burnley, retail and operations director at Sainsbury's: “This partnership with Argos is one of a series of steps we are taking to ensure we continue to offer our customers a wide range of products at great value and to make their shopping more convenient. We are looking forward to working with Argos to ensure the best availability and shopping experience for our customers.”
Steve Carson, director of retail and customer operations at Argos, added: “Working with Sainsbury’s will help us to bring the convenience of the Argos offer to more customers. This is the first time we have had stores in these specific locations."
He continued: "I am particularly pleased with how our teams have worked together to make sure customers have the best experience of this very new partnership.”
