Walmart Stores has sent its former senior vice-president of creative and customer experience Andy Murray to take over as the chief customer officer of Asda.
The Walmart-owned UK grocer recently parted ways with Barry Williams, who left the top marketing job after just one year in the role. Murray comes in as his replacement.
Murray comes to Asda to try to reverse the retailer's fortunes in recent times, in which it has seen its sales dip considerably and has lost market share to discounters. Murray will replace Williams on Asda's executive board.
Asda, lead by its chief executive Andy Clarke, is undergoing its 'Project Renewal' plan for the future of the company. Clarke said that the grocer requires "the right leadership team to steer the business through the rapid, permanent shift that's taking place in this market".
Speaking about Murray, Clarke added: "[His] deep understanding of global retail trends, creative marketing and customers’ shopping habits will bring a new dimension to our strategy to overhaul our offer, merchandising and value proposition and transform of our stores, starting with the largest 95 stores.”
