UK retailer Asda has announced the appointment of Carl Dawson as its new chief information officer.
Dawson will assume his new role in April from Marks & Spencer, where he spent the last six years as the chief information officer.
He was responsible for technology modernisation and digital transformation programmes at Marks & Spencer.
'Strong Retail And Digital Experience'
Commenting on the appointment, Asda's chief operating officer, Anthony Hemmerdinger, said, "We are delighted to welcome Carl [Dawson] to Asda as chief information officer.
"He has strong retail and digital experience having worked at Tesco, Shop Direct and Thomas Cook, and this experience and expertise will be invaluable to us as we navigate our separation from our Walmart systems."
Dawson replaces former chief information officer Phil Tenney, who left the organisation in December to pursue a new role.
Other Changes
Meanwhile, Anna Barsby joined Asda on a fixed-term basis to lead the retailer's technology function.
With Dawson's permanent appointment to the business, Anna will continue to support the delivery of Asda's broader work on a fixed-term basis and report to Mark Simpson, Asda said.
Hemmerdinger added, "Anna [Barsby] has done a fantastic job in steering us through the early days of this critical project, and we are grateful for her continued efforts on our future business planning as well as support in welcoming Carl [Dawson]."
Elsewhere, the chief executive of Asda, Roger Burnley, is set to leave the British supermarket chain next year. The company is considering M&S Food's Stuart Machin and chief operating officer of Morrisons, Trevor Strain, for the top job, media reports suggest.
