Three of the UK's biggest supermarkets have cut their fuel prices on the forecourts as they work to attract back grocery customers from the discounters to their grocery stores.
From today, Sainsbury's and Asda are cutting the price of diesel by up to 2p a litre and unleaded petrol by 1p.
Meanwhile, Britain's biggest petrol retailer Tesco is reducing the price of its unleaded petrol by 1p per litre, diesel by 1p-2p a litre.
The price drops on the supermarket forecourts follows from from a fall in the price of Brent crude oil to below $90 a barrel driven by weaker global demand.
Asda said its cutomers will pay no more than 126.7p a litre for diesel and 123.7p per litre for unleaded petrol.
"We're giving drivers the opportunity to fill up their cars with some of the cheapest fuel prices in the market for years," said Asda's petrol trading director Andy Peake.
The price drop means that UK motorists can now avail of some of the cheapest prices since 2011.
