Asda staff are to be hit with austerity in the form of a decision to revoke their free morning coffee and toast, TheGuardian.com reports.
The removal of the morning privilege comes in an effort to cut costs at the Walmart subsidiary. It is possible that staff canteens will also be shut for the same reason.
Kantar has indicated that Asda’s Christmas performance was a disappointment, with a like-for-like sales drop of 3.5 per cent over the 12 weeks to 3 January. This would make it perhaps the worst-performing supermarket chain in the country for the time period in question.
It was recently made known to the public that 200 jobs in Asda’s senior management, headquartered in Leeds, will be cut in order to shrink costs.
