Linéaires, the French food-distribution magazine, has published a report which makes uninspiring reading for Auchan.
The chain's hypermarket sales (not including fuel) dropped by 1.2 per cent in 2014.
The closure of ten additional Chronodrive sites (Auchan's vehicles for e-commerce) has been announced, according to Linéaires. This comes after the shutting of four in January, though the large investment in its Chronodrive network helped to boost the grocer's figures for 2014 H1.
The disappointing performance owes in part to a sluggish 2014 for the FMCG market in France overall, and in part to the effects of the guerre des prix within the country, the report says.
Auchan will report its full-year results in March.
