Auchan Holding has been awarded the 2016 FAS Grand Prix, for its outstanding shareholding programme for employees. A first-time nominee at the awards, Auchan Holding received the award from Michel Sapin, the French Minister of Economy and Finance.
The 2016 FAS Grand Prix was created in 2004, by the Fédération Française des Associations d’Actionnaires Salariés et Anciens Salariés (the French Federation of Employee and Former Employee Shareholder Associations).
The prize aims to promote best practices in shareholding schemes for employees in French businesses, operating in France and abroad.
Auchan Holding received the award for tailoring its shareholding scheme - which invites employees to invest in, and thereby co-own the company they work for - to suit its employees, in each of the eight countries where it runs the scheme. More than 180,000 employees currently avail of the programme.
Auchan Holding, formerly known as Groupe Auchan, started out as a hypermarket in 1961, founded by Gérard Mulliez. Today it is a federation of companies, which operate in 16 countries and employ around 337,800 people: Auchan Retail, Immochan and Oney Banque Accord.
