Auchan has seen sales at its French hypermarkets drop by 2.8 per cent in its full year, excluding fuel, trade publication Lineaires has reported.
This follows a 1.2 per cent drop in hypermarket sales in 2014, and a 2.6 per cent drop the previous year. However, the group reported that sales performed slightly better in the second half of the year.
Lineaires reported that despite these performances, Auchan has managed to sustain its margin in France, thanks to the introduction of a new range of cost-saving initiatives.
The recently-announced joint buying initiative with Système U has also benefited the group.
