Occurring against the backdrop of its strengthening alliance with Système U, Auchan is to transform one of its Simply Market supermarkets into the first-ever Simply Market Gourmand (“Gourmet”) outlet, which will sell more premium-line foods, LSA reports.
The luxury food store, to be located in Chesnay, Yveline, will be opened after several weeks of renovation. If it is successful, similar such rebrandings could be take place across France. Auchan stated simply that it will be “a premium version of Simply Market outlets.”
Simply Market, created in 2005, is the property of AuchanSuper, which manages also Auchan supermarkets. The group intends to have 500 Simply Market stores by the end of 2015, but the Simply Market Gourmand is, for the present at least, a one-off experiment.
