Auchan has committed to opening 15 new supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City (formally referred to as Saigon) over the course of 2016, and in doing so, increase the number of stores it operates there from three to 18, Saigon-GPDaily.com reports.
The new supermarkets will appear under the French retailer’s banner Simply Mart, which was introduced into Vietnam in 2014. It functions as a cooperative with MIPEC.
The grocer has furthermore revealed its intention to raise the number of stores it operates in Ho Chi Minh City to 20 by the year 2020.
It has also outlined expansion plans for its Russian arm, and domestically in France, its intention to enter a purchasing agreement with French cooperative Système U.
