French retailer Auchan has announced it plans to expand into Corsica, with the first supermarket under the banner to be built in the capital of Ajaccio.
Sarl Primo, a subsidiary of the Rocca group, has undertaken the Auchan franchise for the island. The store will be part of a new shopping centre named L’Atrium, which will cost roughly €100 million and open at the end of 2017.
This facility will possess 55,000 square metres of floor space, with Auchan set to occupy 6,500 square metres. It will also include a gym, exhibition space, office space and 2,800 parking stalls.
Stéphane Catrice, Auchan’s director of partnerships, said the chain is dealing with "a recognised partner" to make the expansion happen, describing Sarl Primo as "an indigenous company already in possession of several [Corsican] franchises."
