Auchan To Provide Sign-Language Translation In Italy

French retailer Auchan will become the first shopping chain in Italy to offer the simultaneous translation of sign language.

Starting from 1 April at the Rome Casalbertone centre, Auchan will introduce simultaneous translation of the Italian sign language, E-lisir, an initiative that aims to enable people with deafness to deal independently with paperwork, administration and everyday life.

At a special information point, Auchan will explain how to use, for free, the service that allows people with hearing loss to communicate with the staff of its hypermarket and shopping malls without the physical presence of a companion who translates sign language.

Through a video centre, made available on a special tablet with E-lisir, the customer has at their disposal a qualified interpreter who translates simultaneously in vocal language the sign language of the user and then in the Italian sign language the response of the salesman.
